Long before it was a keychain, it was a kitchen ritual.
Nonya chang, the Peranakan take on the rice dumpling, is its own quiet tradition: glutinous rice dyed blue with butterfly pea flower, filled with a spiced pork mince sweetened with candied winter melon, wrapped tight in bamboo leaf, and left to simmer for hours. Every Peranakan household has its own version, and every version has an opinion about how it should be done.
This keychain is a small, handmade tribute to that dish. Each one is shaped and painted by hand, so no two are exactly alike, small variations in the fold, the shade of blue, the tie of the string all part of the charm.
Clip it to your keys, your bag, or just keep it on your desk as a little reminder of home cooking done right.
